The Faroe Islands are located in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. They are a self-governed part of the Danish Kingdom with its own language -the Faroese- and its own flag -The Merki. The climate is wet and mild, and it rains aproximateley 260 days a year.


      The average temperature is of 7° Celsius in wintertime and of 15° Celsius in summertime. Fishing is the main industry in these islands of 45.000 inhabitants and 96% of the total export consists of fish, specia- lly cod. The first fishing-boat was bought to England in 1872. This was the beginning of fishing industry in the Faroe Islands.

      Cod was the main catch and it used to be salted as it came out of the  water.   When  landing,   the  fish
used to be washed and spread out on the cliffs to get dry in the sun. Every evening the fish was gathered and kept indoor until next day, when the procedure continued.

Nowadays the fishing industry of the island has changed and is operanting with the latest technologies, offering us one of the best cods in the world.
